Hmm, actually I think it should save and restore this one on reboot.
That could be a separate bug. Workarounds are always possible (e g shell
scripts running on login, or in /etc/rc.local).

Please try the following: Open a terminal and execute the following
command: "alsamixer". Use left/right arrow keys to select the mixer
control labeled "Headphone 1". Unmute it using the "M" key and turn
volume up using the up/down arrow keys.
