Hello,
after upgrading today to the latest version of linux kernel, headers and
restricted modules
# uname -a

my systems starts up in 800x600 on my 1280x800 screen.
I still have to run
sudo dpkg-reconfi

Using a herd5 iso with a dist-upgrade as of 10 pm tonight, same problem on a
Gforce4 mx,
used the 'Restricted Drivers Manager' to add the Nvidia drivers and was limited
to 800x600 or 640x480 at something less than 24 bit colour after the reboot
looking at /var/log/Xorg.0.log I see lots of

Yes, the problem is now solved. From previous experience with other
distros, I believe the ugrade to nvidia-glx 9755 did the trick.

I had a similar problem (caping at 1280x960, although my TFT is
1280x1024), and current kernel fixes it for me again (-13 updated the
nvidia driver). Please check if it still happens for you on current

I don't have the newest driver, but the problem was resolved by editing
xorg.conf to set "Monitor" "Option" to "UseEDID" "0".
