Hi,
My behavior:
Login as user1, switch user to user 2: Fade to black. Screen goes to sleep.
Ctrl+alt+f7 gets me user1's lockscreen.

Mea culpa. Those logs demonstrate a different bug (I've got too many?) with
darkening screen.
After the latest update, when I choose switch user, the screen darkens but now
moves on to the login screen as it should. It lands me there ready for the
password of the original user, but without logg
What is your username, what entry do you pick in the menu? The
.xsession-errors is from your user or the one you try to switch to? It
seems from the log that it tries to start a gnome-shell session for the
user "cpbl"

After locking the screen, when you attempt to unlock the screen, the
button for "switch user" is missing. Only options presented to the user
are "Cancel" button and enter the password for the current user.

One more note. For me, selecting "switch user" from the user menu on
the top right turns the screen black and appears as if its a lock screen
(as noted by the OP). But moving the mouse or hitting the keyboard
returns me immediately to my session without requiring a password.
