Poor Input Sound quality in Skype (others can't understand me)

As of today, the input sound quality seems to have greatly improved. I
was on two calls and had Skype set to mix the voice input levels, and I
didn't use a headset. Nobody complained about poor voice qualities and
all seems to be OK for now. I did not have the sound settings > input
tab open, eithe
