I'm on Xubuntu 11.10 with Compiz and I'm still affected :/ Minimizing
the eog window and bringing it up again makes the file name appear in
title bar.

Thank you for your bug report, it was a compiz issue and seems to be
working fine in Oneiric, can you confirm if you still get the issue or
not?

Just tested Unity 2D and there the filename appears in the window title.
