The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the
upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would
appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel.

The Hardy Heron Alpha series was recently released which contains an
updated version of the kernel. You can download and try the new Hardy
Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ .
You should be able to then test the new kernel via the LiveCD. If you

(lock-up) computer if rtl8187 wifi is attached.
Earlier alpha 5 passes its own md5sum check.
New alpha 5 passes md5 sum check before and after burning to cd.
If wifi not attached, earlier 7.04 alpha 5 sees _only_ sata primary

Could you please try re-burning the CD, this time at the slowest burn
speed? I had a lot of problems w/ Herd 5 not starting up, till I
realized that I had a bad burn (twice).

I replaced the Ubuntu 2.6.17-11 kernel, initrd and /lib/modules/2.6.17-11 with
2.6.15-27 equivalents from Mepis and now my missing secondary drives are back
where they belong.
Whether or not there may be some latent inconsistencies between the
Mepis
Kyle is working on HPA support for libata. Maybe he can give you a test
kernel.

The attached lspci shows we have a Gigabyte mb.
I use a new sata drive as primary. I have my old ide hd and cdrw plugged into
ide secondary. For Knoppix and Mepis, the ide drives show up as hdc (for the
ide hard drive) and hdd for the cdrw.
