I have "gnome-volume-manager-gthumb %h" set in my removable drives and
media preference dialog, and I was able to sucessfully import from my
camera. Unfortunately, f-spot's still failing with an "Unknown error"
when I launch f-spot and ask it to import from the camera (which it

Had a similar problem with a friend's canon - inserted usb cable,
clicked "yes, import," and nothing happened. Went into fspot and tried
to do an import. The camera showed up, but I got an error message when
I tried to import. Then when I went back to try again it worked. But
the next day after
I cannot import photos from my canon powershot G5 using either the standard
dialog or in f-spot ("Unknown connection error"). Using gphoto2 it's fine
though.
Are the default import dialog & f-spot using some outdated version?

Yeah, it appears that the --port=usb: enabled libgphoto2 to be able to
list the pictures on the camera.

ok, this problem is very fishy. In short libgphoto2 misdetect the camera
because it has the same ID as a much older model.
try to force using --camera "Canon PowerShot A520 (PTP mode)"
it should work this way

Note that I cannot import using f-spot or gthumb. That's why I dropped
to the commandline to see what's going on.
