On one of my computers, on which I have included the proposed repository,
important changes are listed in the changelog. It seems that after a package
has resided for a while in edgy-proposed, it is imported to edgy-updates
with "imported from proposed" as the only description in the changelog.

I haven't currently got any examples to hand, but I remember the
ubuntu english translation pack (not sure of the exact package name at
this moment) did not have much information in its changelog. I'll post
with more information soon.

I can confirm this. The changelog for many proposed packages show
nothing about changes.
