Thanks for a response. I could not get it to fully install on two other
computers either. (installer crashes) One with win98 that runs pretty
well. And my main computer with win xp pro that runs flawlessly. I went
and put win 98se on the computer I was trying to "clean" install

out very much suggest that you're suffering from bad memory, a CD fault
such as a dirty drive lens or scratched disk (probably not the latter
since you've tried multiple disks), a hard drive fault, or some

Mark has privately informed me that this is still a problem:
Well I finally received my Ubuntu ver.6.06.1 LTS disk
from the "shipit" site. I installed it on a formatted
clean drive. (Gateway P-4 1.4 Ghz, 256 mb ram, 20 gig
hdd and a nVidia 64 mb graphics card. After a couple
of "installer" crashes
Great. I'm closing this bug until you can test the new ShipIt CD. Let
me know here if the new one _still_ doesn't work :)

cd from ubuntu shipit and will try that one. Hopefully

I did another "check disk for defects". At the end of
the list it stated: "Check finished, 1 checksums
failed". Both disk showed this.

progress bar cycled through a few times, then showed:
"mismatch" then continued checking the disk. Followed
by all "ok"s
