Also confirmed by me, did a clean new install of Ubuntu 7.0.4 Feisty
Fawn on an AMD x64 with a NVidia 8600 GTS (working with drivers from
nvidia) and i also have this 'black screen of almost dead' bug.

I have the same problem on my Dell Dimension 1100.
Funny thing is, my Dell Dimension 3000 works fine.
No usplash on power up or power down on the 1100...total black screen.

I have the exact same problem. Sometimes I can get the gdm login screen
to appear after hitting some keys or moving the mouse. More often, I
have to reboot and try again. Please find attached the output of my
lspci -vv / lspci -vvn. Thank you.

It occurs with last updated Feisty, with usplash 0.4-37 and some
previous versions, but it works fine on Edgy.
