Sorry for late response. Bluetooth works more or less fine now, until I
sleep&wakeup my laptop. After waking up there are some problems, but I
guess it is for another bug report.

Bug still persists.
Don't know if the bluetooth tray widget got reworked though.
service bluetooth restart works.

Up to date Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 here, still suffering from the issue.
Bluetooth doesn't work, until I issue a
# service bluetooth restart
command.
I have put it into /etc/rc.local, which took care of the symptom, but
not the underlying cause.

Comment #3 is for Ubuntu 11.10 with Lighdm. For Ubuntu 11.04 is ugly working
fix is:
1. sudo nano /etc/gdm/Init/Default
2. add these lines to the end of the file:
/etc/init.d/bluetooth stop
while [ $(pgrep -x bluetoothd) ]; do sleep 0.1; done
/etc/init.d/bluetooth start
3. logoff or restart

1. sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
2. add at the end of the file this lines
greeter-setup-script=/etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
