I know you said not to change the HPLIP statuses. When I am addressing an old
bug report like this one from 2011, would it alright to change the HPLIP status
to incomplete at the same time as I change the status on the hplip (ubuntu)
package?

I am experiencing a similar (same ?) problem with a parallel port printer (hp
laserjet 1100)
i can install the printer and print
however, once i suspend/resume the system, the printer will not print anymore
(jobs are withelds);
If i use hptoolbox to delete/recreate the printer then the hp-setup s
