Instead of removing the .exe in the preferences, the full path to autopanog.exe
could be added:
/usr/lib/autopano-sift/autopanog.exe
I don't which is a better solution, but do ag
I marked #109264 as a duplicate of this bug.
It is strange this bug is still not solved while it is reported a long
time ago, solving it is easy, and all first-time hugin users can be
expected to encounter the bug.

Yes, the solution is as simple as removing the trailing ".exe" extension
in the preferences. However, it's something that should work out of the
box, given that autopano-sift is in the repositories.
And, now that we are there, shouldn't hugin suggest or recomend
autopano-sift? There's no need for
Solution:
install libpano12-0 libpano12-bin autopano-sift
and change 'autopanog.exe' to 'autopanog' in the preferences
