Thanks for your comments so far. The problem is I'm not trying to use a development edition; this problem first occurred when clicking on the "update" icon (top right of the screen). It also still occurs when I just run sudo update-manager -c In all cases, I end up being told I require a distrib

You are trying to upgrade to edgy and your using the -d flag. edgy is not in development anymore so you dont use the -d flag to upgrade to edgy. the -d flag is ONLY to upgrade to development versions of ubuntu. Im closing this bug due to reporter using the wrong flags with ubuntu- manager ** Chang

Can you run sudo dpkg --configure -a it should install anything that is not fully installed. once this is ran can you attach any output it gives you unless it dumps you back into prompt. to check the version of ubuntu installed type "lsb_release -a" in terminal without the ". -- Update Manager co
