Can you please try this on a current Feisty, preferably a live CD? If
the problem still happens in the first place, apport will catch the bug

Hi Brian,
sorry, I was afk for a couple of days.
The ubuntu version is 6.10 with xubuntu (but same problem with gnome)
desktop. The other versions are
