rubbish is lying around on that filesystem that might (and does, in my
experience) cause the installation to blow up? The installer has no
particularly sensible way to clean out just the right bits, and even if

I felt I should mention, even though I'm using herd2 I ran this prior to
running the installer:
sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install ubiquity console-setup
This was due to another bug with screen graphic coruption and I believe
another issue related to the partitioner.
