I've the very same problem. Even if I user ldapsearch or thunderbird, it
connects fine. Only from evolution fails.
It works find till I install Natty.

No, it's an unencrypted connection.
I almost suspected the firewall, but I'm able to add new entries to the
LDAP address book via Evolution, and Evolution also recognizes the
search base. It's only when I attempt to search the directory that
nothing appears to happen.
