Yes, 2.6.38-10.46 was the first update to the Natty release kernel and
fixed the power save bug for me. If it doesn't for you then it's not
quite the same bug and we have to keep looking.
Could you try the current daily upstream driver as described in comment
19 of bug 779932?

completely disable powersaving for the wlan chip - then it makes no difference
if I have linux-firmware 1.52 or 1.52.1 and kernel 2.6.38-10.46 or -11.48

chip - forgot to mention, that I blacklisted the rt2860sta driver

The standard natty firmware does not carry the patches for rt2x00 yet. It would
be a downgrade in that respect. Try booting with boot parameter:
pci_aspm=off

Sorry - still not working with firmware and kernel from proposed - i can
connect and ping a server in WAN/LAN but refreshing the package list in
synaptic or listening to stream radio doesn't work at all - after "sudo
iwconfig wlan0 power off" everything starts to work correctly - but only

Reverted kernel tree to latest natty--proposed.
Now everything seems to work, with your firmware package. Bug was most likely
in natty-pre-proposed kernel tree,
or possibly kernel-firmware vs. Kernel-image/drivers mismatch.

Still not working:
