Please do not file bugs about versions from PPAs, especially unstable
ones. They are officially unsupported.
I could not reproduce this issue on oneiric. I can only assume it is
built correctly there.

I wish I still had a borked system to work through this bug but, when I
was dealing with the bug, re-installing the gjs and gobject-
introspection packages didn't fix it. Not sure about the new software
versions just pushed through the repository though.

No, updating today and re-installing and installing some -dev packages,
nothing helps, the error is the same. I.e.
$ gnome-shell --replace
gnome-shell: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libgjs.so.0:
