As can be seen from the log I'm using:
1) Maxima 5.9.3 - which is only in edgy: wxmaxima's version will then be edgy's
version:
2) wxmaxima: 0.6.5-1
3) xmaxima: 5.9.3-1
both front-end gave the error I've reported.

What versions of maxima and wxmaxima do you have installed? Does maxima
on its own work fine?
