The problem is that the desktop file is in the xchat-gnome-common
package. But the binary in the xchat-gnome package.
Apt can deal with it with its "automatically installed" information.
When runing "apt-get autoremove xchat-gnome" it will remove xchat-gnome-
common too.

I confirm this problem on Edgy.
This is because apt-get has always been unable to remove unnecessary packages
automatically. Since Edgy we have the apt-get autoremove command, packages
installed by the user with an apt-get install command line are marked manually,
packages pulled in by dependen
In Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy I did an apt-get remove xchat-gnome
This error message appears when clicking the xchat-gnome menu entry afterwards.
So this bug is not gnome-app-install specific, adding apt task.
The long term solution would be to fix apt-get and gnome-app-install to
remove unnecessary automat
