Hi again,
Thanks for the script location. I checked the script and found that it
uses 'pycentral' which unfortunately I had moved while trying to
uninstall another (Ubuntu official) package (K-3D), and forgotten to
replace. I reinstalled the package 'python-central' and everything
worked.

The prerm script is located at /var/lib/dpkg/info/python-pygame.prerm
Unless you find someone able to reproduce this bug without using the unofficial
repository, the problem is probably not an Ubuntu bug.

No, I'm using Edgy.
But as mentioned, I had been installing freevo. This uses a supplementary
repository, see here:
http://freevo.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/doc/FreevoAptUbuntu
So possibly something's been disturbed by that.
