Restarted and switched to the previous kernel from before the update and it now
shutsdown properly:
non-working: 3.0.0-31-generic
working version 3.0.0-30-generic

Crash on shutdown/suspend/logoff

This bug is affecting me. Started after a recent Update. When I try to
shutdown it just hangs. Was working before. Have to do a hard shutdown with the
power button after trying:
sudo shutdown -t 0 -h now
or
sudo halt
sudo reboot works fine.

Crash on shutdown/susp
I haven't had a chance to put the card back in the nvidia machine to
check, but hopefully the update will have fixed it. I also have an fglrx
machine displaying similar behaviour and that is still not logging out
or shutting down properly with all the latest updates (22/04) applied.

can now shutdown properly and there was an nvidia driver update among them

I removed the nvidia graphics card from one machine that was hanging on
logout/shutdown and switched it to the internal Intel graphics and it
now shuts down and logs out OK, so it looks like it is graphics related.

I tried with acpi=off but still no dice.
Furthermore, I tried a verbose shutdown by removing "quiet" from the boot
