@Colin: I have "/root/.local/share":
$ sudo ls -al /root/.local/share
total 48

After running a system for a while I find this symptom has disappeared.
I assume that either the bug has been fixed or another app has dealt
with the situation more intelligently and the file has been created
successfully, so that the error is no longer seen when using gedit.

The summary line for this bug should be changed to indicate that the problem
also occurs when running gedit with gksudo as other bugs that refer to gksudo
have been marked as duplicates of this one.
Sudo should not be used with gedit of course, one should always gksudo.

i'm using a fresh install of ubuntu 11.04 on 64bits, and I also have this
problem.
I'm trying to use this command:
gksudo gedit /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/org.freedesktop.devicekit.disks.policy
so i can edit the mount policy to work like it did in Ubuntu 9.10 and did in
Fedora 12.
So, if I'm on
