If Stellarium's landscape rendering looks strange after a few Ubuntu
updates, it's likely due to configuration issues, graphics driver
problems, Stellarium bugs, or incorrect landscape data. Try checking the
landscape settings within Stellarium, resetting its configuration by
renaming the .stellari
This solves the issue. Do you think it would be difficult to include the
fix in the release candidate? Also because it is one of the suggested
apps in the software center, so it is probable that many users will run
into this bug

As a workaround try starting Stellarium with the following command from a
terminal:
LC_NUMERIC=C stellarium
You can make a simple script starting Stellarium in this way and use it
as a shortcut on your
Perhaps I should add info on my graphics hardware: I have a nvdidia
Geforce 9600 gt, and use the proprietary nvidia driver version 270.30
