I'd just like to add that lftp is working ok on other systems.
I tested it on Red Hat Enterprise 3, Slackware 10.2 and Slackware 11.0, all
work ok.

Reproducible with lftp 3.4.0-1 on Ubuntu 6.06 LTS i386. I used
