Same problem in Oneiric Ocelot all the way through Alpha, Beta, release.
Same problem in Precise Pangolin all the way through Alpha, and in Beta 1 and
Beta 2 both ubuntu and lubuntu, both generic-pae and generic.
I'm able to connect by plugging in an ancient Realtec pci card.

Tried the wireless script:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wirelessscript/files/
Works fine on Meerkat. Fails on Natty.
Attached is a file showing the differences in the .txt output from
running the script.
The syslog on Natty has complaints, the wireless network is detected but
won't connect.
Network line from lspci shows this hardware:
