Daniel, it doesn't seem to work for 12.04 right now. Are you aware of that?
I mean, dragging the black bar to the right most external monitor has no
effect. Launcher stays on the left laptop screen.

Ok I see what's happening now. The dpkg command tells me the fix is installed,
but it seems to be only for Unity3D, not for Unity2D.
And I'm using Unity2D since Unity3D is heavily slowed down with ATI cards using
the fglrx driver. Moving windows is chunky.

HI Daniel,
the grep command does not give me any output. I did however install all the
upgraded files from the ppa with synaptic.
I dragged the black bar in Display settings to the right external monitor but
without effect. Even after restart.

If you're using the NVIDIA proprietary driver then the primary monitor
(the one the launcher appears on) is chosen by the
"TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder" option in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, which I think
you change by ticking the primary monitor box in the NVIDIA control

OK, I fixed it. Somehow my NVIDIA drivers were messed up. I removed all
nvidia drivers (nvidia-current et al) and reinstalled them. Upon reboot
my launcher is back in the middle of the display surface (left side of
right monitor) and Unity 3D is back.

Yes, NVIDIA with TwinView.
Nothing in my xsession-errors about UScreen at all. I renamed the old
one, logged out and then back in again and ran the System-
Settings->Displays and attached the resulting xsession-errors here.

A little research seems to confirm that the "primary" monitor, according
to NVIDIA, is always monitor 0. And which monitor is reported as #0 is
controlled by Option "TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder".
It shouldn't take me too long to prototype a new fix with support for
NVIDIA/TwinViewXinerama...

box ticked for "Make this the primary display for the X screen".

under 11.04 where dash on primary monitor worked (the exact same monitors
config as Bernie's).

I have an nvidia card and the one-liner patch worked fine. I applied it later
to the unity version in proposed (4.24) as well. Thank you for that!
I used the nvidia-settings tool, set up twinview and selected my screen on the
right hand side to be primary. I saved it the xorg.conf, restarted and
joris, just to be sure, please also run:
dpkg -l | grep unity | grep vv
... just to make sure you have the PPA version active.
Though, given your previous output I suspect more work is required to
support Nvidia, which doesn't implement xrandr properly :(

Hmmm, fix in ppa isn't working for me. I am using an nvidia card (GT218
[GeForce 210] with twinview. I set it up with the Nvidia settings tool
and saved it to xorg. The gnome-display tool does not see my settings.

Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups
To manage notification
I cannot find any monitors.xml file - neither in my Ubuntu 11.04 set up
nor in my 11.10!
How can I set the screen the launcher should be on?
I find the whole discussion here so ridiculous! Since Windows 95 you can
drag Windows' task bar where ever you like - why can't this be done in a
2011 Ubunt
This bug is primarily a Unity bug still, where Unity 4.18+ doesn't
honour the primary monitor setting.
The xrandr panel UI (gnome-display-properties) should probably be made a
separate bug.

Almost there. I think the colour of the overlays needs to be
significantly different to that of the grey background or else it's
visually confusing. Perhaps black, like it is at present in Gnome 3.
Also optionally, the overlay(s) should have arrows, or something, to
indicate they are drag-able.

display settings panel to this bug. Hopefully we can make these changes

This is why I left the bug confirmed in both gnome-control-center and
unity packages. Arguably, we could move the gnome-control-center
enhancement into a new bug or blueprint... ?

Should not be so difficult patching the display settings panel to draw a
vertical bar in place for the horizontal one if unity is running.

Andrea is right. The option exists already in oneiric's Gnome 3 display
settings panel. It's just not obvious to all users because the bar is
small. But you can drag it between monitors.
And certainly Andrea is right that at least up to Unity 4.16, this
worked in changing the screen on which the l

Right know i can't make a screencast because I have no longer a multi
head... Btw using Gnome 3 you can set the primary monitor in 'Display'
panel dragging and dropping the black panel.

There is already an option to set the primary monitor in 'Displays' panel in
System Settings. End a few weeks ago, the launcher was displayed on the primary
monitor, but right now it's shown in the left monitor.
Just restore the old behavior.
