desktop in Xorg 2:1.10.0-0ubuntu2 I often get this result:

I'm able to reproduce the issue on my -ati system. I first started
noticing it around last Thursday after updating. I was updating the box
pretty regularly last week, so I figure the regression must have started
with some package updated Feb 23 or 24.
