Ah, can you add indicator-applet to the panel. Right click on the panel and add
'indicator-applet'.
You are running standard gnome-desktop by the looks of things and not unity.

Yes, I was able to complete my partial upgrade. My network indicator is
back, although my volume indicator has not re-appeared(not sure if i
just have to re-enable it or something).
