PS: just found the following: hitting "tools -> re-build index" just
before showing the task list makes things work. I strongly suspect
showing the task list requires a properly initialized index but does not
check if there is one and does not create one if there is none...

I have spoken too soon:
With both zim 0.50 from the official Ubuntu archives and zim 0.52 from
the zim website I get the error when deleting the hidden .zim folder and
clicking "show task list" after that. the message reads:
This is zim 0.52
Python version is sys.version_info(major=2, minor=7, mi
I did not happen again ever since. Closing this ticket...
