I just installed 11.04 and system hang up after completion of upgrade.
Unity screen is complete, mouse can travel all the screen, but there is no
posible input.
I made c-a-f1 and type "ps auxf" but don't know what to do with the output.
I have sent it to a txt file, but .. how can I take from the
I had delayed upgrading to 11.04, due to sometroubles I found when going up to
10.10.
At last, I did make the upgrade. My AMD, nvidia system was busy 12 hours.
When it finished, I was going to bed, so let it in middle of re-starting job.
Initial screen was present, but did not accept any input.

I did encounter this again once during Beta 2 ISO testing. Another note
to add to the reboot issue-- On the Desktop versions, the user is not
asked to remove the cd (disconnect the iso in Vbox) until after clicking
the Reboot Now button. The user is prompted to remove the disk just

@ Jean-Baptiste Lallement Correct, ubiquity is not in universe, but
virtual box IS...and while I would like this to work, it's not an
officially supported environment, and thus not something I see as
important enough to break freezes for in Natty. So with that said, I'm
unassigning the Canonica
jibel - the comment regarding universe was about virtualbox rather than
about ubiquity. The scope of impact is somewhat lower because it only
affects ubuntu running in virtualbox as far as we can tell.

I don't think ubiquity has been demoted to universe, and this issue is
confirmed by IKT and seems to be caused by a long shutdown process.
Reaffecting to foundation.
IKT, Patrick do you still reproduce this bug wuth Natty Beta 2 ?

Status: Confirmed =>
Physical machine (no VM), Natty beta1, clean install, all goes well
except at the end of the installation, after pressing reboot, I get the
Ubuntu screen with the 5 dots, 2 dots red, then it stalls.
Only thing that works is a hard reset with the power button.

Similar issue on my system, but on real installation (not vm):
- its an old story: get it since hal have been droped, and upstart used
- even with natty beta:
stop work but wonder if its done correctly
reboot never work
So booting often fail due to bad state (i suppose)

Given this is a universe package and the current bug list already
assigned to the canonical-foundations team, I'm unassigning to allow
someone else the opportunity to address.

so it seems like the issue might be an unusually long shut down process.

Huzzah! happened to me.
I can change VT but it won't let me type anything in, it appears to be
just frozen there, and because it was shutting down after running a live
cd I don't believe I can retrieve the logs.

I have not been able to reproduce this issue a while. If it happens

If you are seeing this issue, could you please let the computer sit for
a while rather than forcing it off? I'm curious to know if the UI is
being unresponsive, but the installer is still working to clean up
(unmounting the target filesystem, etc).
Equally, please report if you're able to switch
I've seen intermittent reports of this over the past year or two, but
never been able to reproduce it myself.

Indeed, it seems to be working in alpha 3.
Want to set it to incomplete while we wait for some more user feedback?

I have the same problem on Asus Eee PC 1001HA. Both on Ubuntu 10.10 and
11.04 (tested on Alpha 2). I can't shut down compyter any other way than
hard reboot. When I click shut down button it freezes and I can't even
move cursor.
