So if installing the daily snapshot from ubuntu-audio-dev helps, it is
likely that this is fixed in Natty (11.04), could you please confirm

I can confirm that the fix above needs to be run at every kernel
upgrade. Can anybody confirm if this has been fixed in the main
repository (ie without the fix applied)?

Just did a clean install of Ubuntu 10.10 and there was no sound. I had
to implement the fix as described above - so the problem is not with the
upgrade.
I had similar problems with Fedora 14 so I suspect there is something
not getting along with the latest kernel and Alsa.

Hi David,
I have recently run an upgrade from Lucid. I suspect that is where
2.6.32-27 is coming from, but cannot be sure. The sound was fine in
Maverick after the upgrade anyway for a few days until I ran the recent
update.
The only two kernels I have in Grub are 2.6.32-27 and 2.6.35-25, but I
