Cannot change resolution
I am resizing my screen more often these days, but for quite some time I
didn't experience this, probably since the upgrade to hardy. Still
running the free driver on a mobile ATI FireGL T2. But I now forced the
Virtual size to 2048x2048, maybe this will help you, too...

I have experienced the same problem (change in resolution after resume
from hibernating) using Hardy heron in my laptop compaq presario V6000.
I didn't find other way to restore the resolution than restart the
computer.

I'm reopening & confirming this as I still get it on Hardy. I'm not
sure about suspend though as that doesn't come back at all! ;) I've got
a Gateway MX1023.

It just happened right after booting without a suspend cycle, so it
might not be related to hibernation.

Hi!
I just experienced the same problem here (gutsy i386, Thinkpad T41p with
ATI FireGL T2, "radeon" driver). I try to change my resolution with
xrandr, but nothing happens, no flicker, no error message. Attached,
there is an strace of xrandr. There are no relevant messages in
Xorg.0.log oder sysl
Thanks for getting back so quickly. Unfortunately with the equipment
not available, we won't be able to track this down further, so I am
closing it. Sorry to hear about the hibernate problem, but if/when that
is resolved, if you still find the screen resolution issue on Feisty or
newer, please re
Well for me, since I've changed my laptop and I cannot even properly
hibernate now. So this is no longer an issue for me.

Thanks for reporting this bug in Ubuntu. Can you please test to see if
it occurs in Feisty or a newer version of Ubuntu? If so, can you please
also attach your /etc/X11/org.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files, and
the output from lspci -vv?

I have observed this bug on two different laptops, one running Edgy with the
free ATI driver, and one running Dapper with the free Intel driver (both were
fresh installs):
xrandr -s works just fine after a fresh reboot, but stops working entirely
after the laptop has gone through a suspend/resum
