This does not show up in 2.6.19-7-386 kernel, but there is something
wrong with ata drivers..

I'd like to confirm the same behaviour. Running VMware on AMD64 Edgy,
used a fresh debootstrap of the feisty sources, built from a Knoppix
bootdisk iso. Hardware is (VMware host) Intel EM64T 2.8Ghz DualCore, 1Gb
RAM.
