Same problem with an MSI R3650 (HD3650).
I'm using the ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates because a previous error, now fixed
with this ppa.
I'm unable to use the graphics card (pci-e) and i'm trying to configure it
using an agp card.

Just a comment on my error, with the same error message but on other version. I
installed fglrx from oneiric and forgot to upgrade xserver-xorg-core from natty
to oneiric. Upgrading xserver-xorg-core fixed my problem.
apt-get -duy -t oneiric install xserver-xorg-core

x86-64 related problem, so I'm going to try a 32 bit install.
