I'm having this same problem on an up to date Hardy 8.04.1 system.
Running pitivi 0.11.1 on an AMD64 system.
The timing of the program crashing isnt always consistent. Sometimes it will be
an instant crash bef

Same problem here, diferent "serial" (?¿)
The program 'pitivi' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)'.

running with --sync seems to work (note: I downloaded the updates from
this morning, but I'm not sure they made it work with --sync).
