I did a few improvements to reduce the number of calls to update-
initramfs, however when it's actually called, it'll take up to 5 minutes
on a recent i7 quadcore machine, so I can totally believe that a slow
atom machine can take close to half an hour, it's sadly not something we
can fix in casper

The hardware is capable enough to run a live system. As I told, the
problem is in the script. Installing Ubuntu sure it's a workaround, but
won't fix the problem. Specially for LiveUSB users.
