PS: Originally, everything worked just fine. So it may have been caused
by one of the automatic updates.

Thanks for the report David. More info would be needed to fully
diagnose your problem. How did you upgrade to Dapper? Was it a clean
install, or did you use update-manager or dist-upgrade from the previous
Ubuntu version?
