OK, version 3.10 provides more information about the keys and allows me
to filter out those duplicates. Thanks.
However, in oneiric cnee seems to be removed. :(

Thank you very much! Using this version I get key events again.
The only problem I observe now is: when I press a key and release it
immediately afterwards I get 3 key press events and 4 key release events
(see output below). But I suppose this bug has to be filed in another
issue.?

This is fixed in the coming release of GNU Xnee.
I can reproduce the behaviour you're describing (noting recorded) in Maverick
with Xnee 3.07
With the latest CVS Head Xnee works again.
We have a Fedora build issue to sync with building on Debia/Ubuntu and
then we'll go for relasing Xnee 3.08
