I have the same crash bug using a wireless keyboard (works as expected when
removed).
Versions on my installation (Edgy):
g-p-m: 2.16.1
hal: 0.5.7.1

Insertion messages? I'm only talking about g-p-m. It also displays the battery
level of wireless keyboards, if this info is available.
As for the _(...)-ization, yes, the naming problem boils down to it. There are
two different functions that are used to assemble the filename.
gpm_power_get_icon
I thought it was gnome-volume-manager that displayed the insertion
messages. I think "Kabellose Tastatur" roughly translates as "Cable-
less keyboard"; It's likely that a filename has been wrapped with
_("...") to mark it for translation, when it shouldn't have been.
