I think this issue is related but I cannot tell if it is the same bug.
The status of the JDT plug-in in Eclipse 3.2.2 (default in Jaunty) is:

Pardon the ignorance here (I'm brand new to working with ubuntu) but
where can I find projected ship dates of packages? When can I expect the
above package to appear on my system if I already have eclipse
(e.2.2-3ubuntu1) installed?

You can get the junit 4 working by downloading the jar and installing it
in the build path as a new library.

java-*-sun? So one can at least get some *.deb packages to install.
