Doesn't the root user use GTK2 at all?
I think for about 90% of the users, this problem can be eliminated by
setting the gtk1 and gtk2 theme of the root user to the same default as
we do for ordinary users.

Thanks for your bugreport.
The effect you see here is that gdebi has to run as root for the actual
install. This switches the theme because it switches the user. We would
have to add something to gksu to preserve the theme.
