It worked for me, on x86_64 2.6.35-22-generic Ubuntu 10.10 Meerkat with
VMware-Workstation-Full-7.1.2-301548.x86_64.bundle

This is the latest log after the apt-get and trying to run the vmware
7.0.1 workstation player. At the end of this log there seems to be more
info than the previous log. Hope this helps. Thanks for you assistance
so far.

its cause, we would need to know:
Which version and source of vmmon you are trying to compile. It is
possible, however that you might not have the kernel headers installed.
In the terminal, please make sure you do by running:
s
