Mark: Starting gnome-settings-daemon immediately brought the correct
appearance back!

Will try that this afternoon (now it's morning here and I am at work),
whether starting gnome-settings-daemon from terminal will make the
problem go away.
Also I have to note, that when I open the appearance settings while this
error occurs, the problem is solved too. As if it reminds itself of th
It sounds like something kills gnome-settings-daemon. Das, if you open
up a terminal and run gnome-settings-daemon, does the problem go away?
Is there an apport trace for it?
