QtParted is unmaintained, so this will likely not be fixed.
KDE users are now recommended to use the "partionmanager" package to manage
their paritions.

Finally I might add that partitioning _did_ work when I selected a
harddisk before continuing.
Might also be important: my system has no floppy drive
