Setting the resolution to 800x600 here worked fine.
Running strings on /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-theme-ubuntu.so showed that
the theme for 640x480 is missing.
I wonder how you determine which resolution to choose?
So there are actually two bugs here:
1) The theme for 640x480 is missing.
2) The c
I found a workaround that may "fix" the usplash issue:
1) Run this command to show available splash resolutions:
strings /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-theme-ubuntu.so | grep -i usplash_theme
Mine shows:
usplash_theme
usplash_theme_800_600
usplash_theme_1024_768
usplash_theme_1365_768_scaled

Or perhaps you want /var/log/boot? Here you are.
The file looks different from the same file in my other machines, perhaps since
this one is a "potato -> woody -> sarge(pre) -> hoary -> breezy -> dapper ->
edgy" install.

It's all those 3 lines. No idea why you want an attachment instead.
Attached anyway.

I saw the following line on terminal 1:

I don't know what to change the resolution to. Usplash on dapper works
fine.

What does the file /etc/usplash.conf contain? Is there anything

I can see the problem on a Dell laptop with integrated i845 graphics
controller.
Another system I upgraded today from Kubuntu 6.06 to Edgy RC1 (ATI
Radeon) works fine.

Video hardware, I have already listed that.

Which processor and video hardware are you using ? There seems to be a
problem with amd64+nvidia for which a fix seems to have been released
very recently.

In my case, menu.lst do have the "splash" item at the very end. If I
remove it, then I see the normal old-day boot lines. This has occurred
in both my computers (IBM T40 laptop and a Dell desktop). And, I don't
even see "Starting..", perhaps due to the "quieten-grub" edgy spec.
