This just happened to me and i can't update to 10.10.

I don`t use nvidia and had the same problem with netbook remix.

Thorsten,
I tried your workaround, but was still unable to upgrade to 10.10. I
keep getting a terminal and a message that the nvidia driver cannot be
found. I tried several times, but no luck.

It looks similar. I will attempt the workaround as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, I'm working a number of rotating shifts in the next few
days, so it may be some time before I can try it.
