hi Andreas,
in maverick (anki version 0.9.9.8.6) "The sync protocol has changed. Please
upgrade" msg popups.
i believe this will soon be solved with update to natty.
please resolve this. i'll open another bug if same issue happens in
natty.

You can download the latest version (1.0.1-1) from the Anki website:
http://anki.googlecode.com/files/anki_1.0.1-1_all.deb
Once installed, you should find that Anki starts with no issues again -
it would however seem that 0.9.9.8.6-2 is indeed broken as I had this
problem on both my installations
