Thanks earshot... I followed the links and used the workaround and now
my Compaq/HP netbook will actually shutdown/reboot - plus it now
connects with wpa2 at 54mbps... still won't connect with "n" but this is
much better than the 1-2Mbps it was getting while showing 100% signal
strength!

Hmm wireless it's possible.
I tried ctrl-alt-f1 and then did:
ifconfig wlan0 down
and it rewarded me with:
phy0->rt2x00pci_regbusy_read: Error - Indirect register access failed:
offset=0x7010, value=0x
and then hung solid a few seconds later

Same problem in the same netbook (1001HA)
If i disconnect wifi in BIOS, i can shutdown, but in the next start up i get
this error:

Same thing happened on my Asus eee PC 1001HA.
Also did a clean install.
I have no problems running Lucid.
